What is a partial run?

Last updated: August 5, 2026

A partial run occurs when the automation starts processing but does not complete due to an error. It stops partway through the batch rather than finishing all items in the run.

What causes it

Typically triggered by an unexpected response from the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system during processing. This can result from a timeout, an unexpected pop-up or protocol, or a temporary connectivity issue between the automation and the EPR.

What happens to your data

Some lab reports may still be processed and automated before the error occurs. This means:

  • Partial completion is expected behaviour, not a full failure.

  • Items processed before the error are actioned as normal.

  • Items after the point of failure are not processed and will be processed in the next automation run.

What to do next

  1. Check the audit log in the Practice Portal to identify which records were completed before the run stopped.

  2. Avoid manually processing the remaining items where possible, as this can reduce what the automation can safely pick up on the next run.

  3. The automation will typically pick up remaining items on the next scheduled run, subject to the lookback window.

  4. If the error persists across multiple runs, escalate to support by emailing support@gpautomate.com.
